Yes, the series on journaling continues.  I know…how can one person have so much to say on keeping a journal?  Well let me tell you: there’s a lot to say!  Journaling is important, and an amazing way to improve your walk with Jesus.

So, this time we’re talking about how we get guys to keep a personal journal.  Guys don’t typically flock to the stores to buy a pretty pink journal with flowers on it to put their deepest thoughts in.  It takes a discerning eye to choose a journal that a guy is going to really value and use.

Those who know me well know that somewhere in here will be my shameless plug for Moleskine notebooks.  I love Moleskine notebooks more than any other journal I have had, and am currently on my fifth full-sized notebook.

There’s a lot more to picking a journal for a guy than that, however.  Check out my article to find out more.

If you’re interested, please read my article on how to choose a journal for a guy HERE.

Reblog this post [with Zemanta]

There was a skit years ago that my youth group did called the “Ten Pound Bible.”  In it, there is a new Christian who is really excited about his life, looking for what to do next, encouragement, and the like.

As he goes from christian to christian, each one gives him something he must do in order to be a good christian.  One says that he must carry a 10-lb Bible, another that he has to talk a certain way, another that he has to buy christian gum, have a christian “walk,” etc.

Everyone puts all of these restrictions on new believers, but the people who give guidance into what new believers CAN do that make the most out of their new life.

In that vein, I decided to write a little bit about which book of the Bible would be the most fruitful for a new believer to read and commit to heart as they’re starting their spiritual journey.

Read my article on which book of the Bible a new Christian should read first, if you so desire, HERE.

Bible-docIn studying Luke 15 for a while, I decided I needed to congeal what I was learning about the prodigal son and Jesus’ attitudes toward him into something smaller and easier to digest. There is a LOT of things to consider in the story of the prodigal son. It’s an extremely dense parable, and one that everyone should spend some time really digging into.

If you are interested, please check out my article on Associated Content about the prodigal son HERE.

Also, for more about the stories that preceed the parable of the prodigal son, the parables of the lost coin and the lost sheep, please read my other article HERE.

Alright, everyone, this is the last article in my series on the benefits of journaling.  This one focuses in on how journaling can develop your depth and thought life.

Journaling is not just for writing down the little things that happen in your life, it’s about becoming a deep person who has an impact on the world around and on people. Journaling is about becoming the kind of person that you respect.
For more, please read my newest article, Journaling 101: Demonstrating the Value of Your Deep Thoughts HERE.

journalingI have posted another in my series on journaling.  This one is entirely about using your journal to process through all of the things that happen in your life, and using that slow act of processing through writing to learn more and grow better from your experiences in the world around you.

Journaling 101: An Outlet for Prayer
Be quiet. You heard me, Christians…we talk too much. Find out why we should shut our mouths and give ourselves time to let God connect the synapses in our heads.

One of the biggest influences on my spiritual growth over the past many years has been my journal.  My prayer journal has allowed me to think more deeply and make more connections between my life, Scripture, and the lives of others than I would have been able to make otherwise.

I don’t believe that my experience with journaling is limited just to me.  Journaling has a way of bringing out the whole of a matter, whether good or bad. When the pen hits the paper, our minds begin to transform our experiences into a tangible record of thoughts, emotions, and actions. That record…

As I have been organizing my thoughts on many different topics, I wanted to start putting a ton of the information that I have been gathering into a single place.

Mentoring HandsEnter Squidoo!  I don’t know if any of you have seen this site, but it is actually a pretty great site for putting information together for people.  Since the internet is OVERRUN with information, and NONE of us can wade through it all, this little place gives me a place to organize information about single topics into one little website.

Technology is nice, isn’t it.

So, head on over to MENTOR ME, my first lens on Squidoo.
